Inclusive House Policy

Approved by the School Committee on November 5, 2016

Revised July, 14, 2021

Scattergood Friends Schools seeks to nurture a diverse community where all individuals have the opportunity to express their authentic selves and feel supported. To this end, Scattergood will respect and support each student in their assertion of their own gender identity and expression. We will respect people’s choice of pronouns and preferred names. With parental consent, we will support students if they choose to seek medical services outside the school. We will also support students in finding safe, suitable housing based on their gender identity, meaning that the student and their family may request that the student be housed in the dorm that more closely aligns with their gender identity and not with their assigned sex. The Dean of Students will work closely with students and their parents in this process, in which the student, their parents, and the Dean of Students (in conjunction with the Student Support Team) must be in agreement.
