Welcome to the Dorm
Scattergood offers full-boarding and 5-day boarding options to high school students. The 5-day option can be a nice choice for students who live close to home and wish to be with their families on the weekends. Scattergood’s campus has two dormitories and has a team of staff who supervise students during dorm hours and sleep in the dorms each night.
Inclusive Housing Policy
Scattergood Friends Schools seeks to nurture a diverse community where all individuals can express their authentic selves. Scattergood will respect and support each student in their assertion of their own gender identity and expression as well as their choice of pronouns and preferred names. We ensure safe housing which aligns with each student’s gender identity rather than assigned sex. The Dean of Students and Student Support Team work closely with families on identifying which dorm will be most suitable.
Roommates
Dorm rooms are about 170 square feet and are shared by two students. Students are assigned a roommate for the first semester, generally a new student will room with a returning student. During the second semester, students may request to room with a peer of their choice who resides in the same dorm.
Dorm Amenities
Each dormitory has one large shared bathroom, one private bathroom, a lounge, and a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, and sink. Each room has twin beds which can be stacked as bunk beds, dressers, and standalone or built-in desks. Many rooms also have additional chairs or loveseats. Students are encouraged to bring decorative items like rugs, wall hangings, etc. to personalize their spaces. Houseplants and aquarium fish are also welcomed in student rooms.
Dorm Meetings
Weekly dorm meetings are held to discuss any issues pertaining to dorm and community life, whether they be social or interpersonal in nature. Meeting topics can cover anything from leaving dirty dishes in the sink to respecting privacy. Each meeting ends with a time for people to share any funny things that happened in the dorm and to celebrate good things from the previous week.
