This summer, your child will develop their passion for art and explore ceramics with a professional artist and learn about sustainable organic farming, livestock care, and delicious farm-to-table food.  Students will experience a traditional summer day camp program that instills the values of community, cooperation, responsibility, and independence.  Scattergood's 126 acre campus and farm is the setting for campers to enjoy games, recreation, and friendship.

Arts Day Camps: Campers going into Grades 3-8* will develop their passion for art and explore the basics of hand building, inlcuding pinching, coiling, slabs, molds, sculptural techniques, and learning to throw on the wheel.  Decorate your work with tools, stamps, colorful slips and underglazes with instructor and professional potter Shumpei Yamaki.

Organic Farm Camp (Day and Residential): Campers going into Grades 3-5* and Grades 6-8* will explore and learn on Scattergood's 10-acre organic farm as they taste veggies right out of the garden, care for livestock, swim in the pond, and get satisfyingly dirty in the process.  A major component of Organic Farm Camp is camper-led activity selection and unstructured outdoor play. A fun side benefit to having a kid in Farm Camp is enjoying the organic vegetables the campers harvest and bring home!  Camp director Dana Foster has 20+ years of experience with the Scattergood farm and kitchen, and also directed a residential wilderness camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains for 13 years.

*A note on ages: Campers outside of (but close to) these age ranges will be considered if their parent feels the camp will be a good match for their child.  Please contact Art Camp director Shumpei at syamaki@scattergood.org or Farm Camp director Dana at dana@scattergood.org to discuss the possibility before submitting the registration form.
