Tim has always gravitated towards positions where he can teach or work towards stewardship and social justice. His master’s degree in outdoor education led to eight years of teaching environmental education. This experience taught him the value of meaningful work projects and the importance of having allies in the maintenance department who model stewardship. He then went on to the building trades, mostly framing and energy efficient retrofitting, which eventually led to work as the caretaker at the Ashokan Field Campus in New York. While at Ashokan, participation in summer “fiddle and dance” music camps broadened and deepened his interest in diverse music and its performance. He most recently served as as building and grounds manager at the Wesley Foundation in Iowa City before becoming Facilites Manager at Scattergood in July 2015.
