What would your school day look like if you were a Scattergood student?

8:00 a.m. - Start the day off right with a hot breakfast in the Dining Hall.

8:40 -  Join your fellow students and staff members for a 15 minute period of silence in the Meeting House. This is called Collection and it's a great way to feel grounded as you start your day.

9:05 to 12:25 - Your three morning class blocks rotate between Science, Math, Social Studies, and Language (Spanish or ELL).  The first two blocks are 50 minutes long and the third "double" block is 105 minutes long.  Most students have two regular block and one double block free/study period per week.

12:35 - Enjoy a delicious farm-to-table lunch served family-style at assigned tables.  Table assignments change every two weeks allowing everyone a chance to get to know each other.  Our cooks make sure that vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other allergen-free options are available.

12:55 - Crew time! Students and staff band together to clean up lunch, tidy classrooms, do grounds keeping, clean dorm common areas, dust the library, harvest vegetables, collect recycling, and care for livestock. You'll rotate through different crews every three to four weeks, learn a lot of skills, and have a lot of fun in the process.

1:50 to 4:15 - After Crew, you're ready to dive back into afternoon classes. Your Seminar class meets twice a week and is the only class specifically assigned to your grade level.  Freshmen and sophomores work on composition, reading, and writing, while juniors and seniors work on rigorous independent research papers and tackle their college search and application process with the College Counselor. Your Humanities and Project classes change quarterly, and you get to pick the classes that most interest you.

4:25 - Burn off some energy three days a week during P.E.  You can choose between team and individual sports each quarter.  No P.E. today?  Spend free time with your friends, catch up on homework, or go to a student club meeting.

6:05 – Head back to the Dining Hall for dinner, then enjoy free time (maybe a game of ping pong in the student lounge) before Study Hall.

7:15 to 8:30 – If you forgot to turn in your homework today or need extra academic structure, report to Study Hall.  If you're doing great in all your classes, study quietly in the location of your choice.

8:30 to Dorm Time - Hang out with your friends, bake some cookies in the kitchen, or play video games in your favorite classroom.  Your dorm time depends on your status, which is tied to your grade level and your slip count that tracks how well you're meeting community expectations.  Dorm times range from 9:30 to 11 p.m.

Dorm Time to Lights Out - Have a snack in your dorm lounge, chat with the dorm sponsor about life, throw in a load of laundry, and don't forget to brush your teeth and set your alarm.

11:00 to 11:20 Just like Dorm Time, your Lights Out time depends on your status. Don't forget to plug your cell phone and laptop into the central charging station in the dorm lounge!  You'll get a better night's sleep and be rested for tomorrow.
