Gabriela learned about the impact and value of education working in teacher education and curriculum development for National Educational Reform in Bolivia. Her focus was the integration of bilingual and intercultural perspectives into public education. She moved to the US with a Fulbright scholarship in 1997 to continue her education at University of Massachusetts Amherst. For 16 years, she worked for an international non-profit to develop and deploy training on social responsibility, human and labor rights worldwide.
In 2014 Fernando, her husband, was invited to teach Spanish at Scattergood, and Gabriela fell in love with the Scattergood community. Her intensive traveling schedule did not allow her to spend much time on campus, but it fed a growing desire to be an active member of the community.
Gabriela's wish was granted in 2016 when she began her role as Assistant Head of School at Scattergood. She looks forward to working with all students, staff, and families to shape students who are eager to keep learning, willing to live their values, and work for the well-being of their communities and our planet.
Some of Gabriela's interests include spirituality, comparative religion, Lacanian psychoanalysis, Latin American literature and feminism.
