Health Coordinator (part-time, posted on 7/11/17)

Scattergood Friends School and Farm seeks a part-time Health Coordinator to begin employment on August 1, 2017.

School Description and Mission:

Scattergood is in a unique period of growth and development. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about progressive education for adolescents in an agricultural setting.

Mission: Scattergood Friends School challenges students with a college-preparatory curriculum, farm experience, a shared work program, and community living in the spirit of Quaker faith.

Established in 1890, Scattergood is an extraordinary Iowa City area college prep boarding and day school known for its progressive academics, organic farm, and restored prairie. It attracts a diverse student body from the Midwest, around the U.S., and many different countries.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

The Health Coordinator, reporting to the Assistant Head of School, will be responsible for overseeing and providing services related to maintaining the health and wellness of students. The Health Coordinator will monitor student health needs and provide appropriate health interventions and services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite medical support: treat minor injuries, determine (when necessary) referrals to off-campus qualified medical treatment/support, organize and maintain student medication cabinet, administer student medication, and record interactions with students with the school database.
  • Collect and file health forms, organize, maintain and update student records (including collection of records from students' previous schools and immunization records).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable city, state and federal health regulations.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of neatness, cleanliness, and organization in the school health office.
  • Oversee and develop protocol for a hygienic facility and communicate to staff, faculty, and students.
  • Provide and promote relationships between community health providers and students, parents, and the community at large.
  • Perform office tasks related to student data collection, parent-school communication, and student-office communication.
  • Additional tasks and projects as needed to support the entire school function.

Scattergood Friends School and Farm seeks a full-time academic dean to begin employment August 1, 2017.

Opportunity:

Scattergood Friends School and Farm seeks a full-time Academic Dean to begin employment on August 1, 2017.

The Academic Dean is responsible for the academic program at the school. This includes recruiting, training, and supporting teachers, overseeing and developing the curriculum, and coordinating student academic support.

Scattergood is looking for a candidate who is passionate about leading and supporting the faculty in carrying out our progressive college-preparatory educational program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with teachers on curriculum development, pedagogy, and the implementation of new programs.
  • Evaluate teachers and academic programs.
  • Provide academic counseling to students and develop, coordinate, and monitor student support plans.
  • Manage the academic program, including scheduling and registration.
  • Communicate with parents about the academic progress of their children.
  • Collaborate closely with the Assistant Head of School to facilitate the day-to-day life of the school.
  • Manage the academic budget of the school.

Skills, Qualifications, Experience:

  • Strong commitment to and experience in progressive education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all constituents in an educational setting with a patient and positive attitude.
  • Leadership experience, preferably in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher and knowledge of pedagogical strategies that emphasize engaged learning.
  • Experience with budget preparation and tracking and the ability to work within budget constraints.
  • Experience with differentiating for students’ individual learning styles inside and outside the classroom.
  • Ability to navigate difficult conversations respectfully and with the recognition of individual and cultural differences.
  • Past experience in Quaker education is desirable but not required.
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field is desirable but not required.

Compensation includes salary, rent-free campus housing, meals when school is in session, health and disability insurance, and retirement benefits.
