Step 1:   Application Forms

The application process begins by submitting all of the following materials to the Scattergood Friends Admission Office:

  • Scattergood Online Application
  • Current transcripts (Return the Transcript Release form to applicant's current school, not to the Admissions Office at Scattergood.)
  • Standardized test scores - SLEP or TOEFL scores for International Students
  • Completed Reference Forms from  1) Math, 2) English or Social Studies teachers, and 3) an adult friend or guidance counselor
  • A non-refundable application fee of $65. International students $125 USD.
  • The school may also request additional assessments or information, as needed.

The application deadline for the Fall Semester is January 15. The application deadline for second semester is November 1st. If there are still spaces available after the spring application deadline, applications will be accepted based on spaces available in each class.

Step 2:  Interview and Visit

After all applications materials have been submitted, materials will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and if the Committee decides to move forward, an interview will be arranged. If an on-campus interview is not possible, other arrangements can be made, but all students are strongly encouraged to visit campus.

The Interview will begin with a campus tour, class visit, an opportunity to meet with the Head of School and lunch with current students. The prospective student will have a 45 minute interview with the Committee followed by a writing assessment and possible math assessment while parents  are interviewed by the Committee.

Overnight visits are possible. Families who wish to stay on campus can call our main office at 319-643-7600 to reserve rooms in Berquist House, the school's guest house. It may be possible for the prospective student to spend the night in the dorm with a student host. The interview and classroom visits will occur the following morning.

For those unable to make it to campus, especially in the case of International Students, a Skype Interview is possible. In rare cases, a telephone interview may be necessary.

Step 3:  Scheduling Your Visit

When school is in session, it works best to plan your interview for a full-day visit and possible dorm stay on Mondays or Wednesdays. The Admissions Committee strongly recommends that families visit the campus before they enroll.

Enrollment Dates and Deadlines for Winter and Fall 2013-14:

·         November  1:  Applications due for new students to be considered for Winter enrollment

·         January 15:      Admissions application deadline for new and returning students

·         February 15:    Financial aid application deadline for new and returning students

·         March 15:        Contracts for new and returning students mailed with financial aid awards

·         April 15:          All enrollment agreements due back to Scattergood

After April 15, Scattergood offers rolling admissions as space allows.

Step 4:   Committee Decision

Following the Interview, the Admissions Committee will review all application materials and decide if additional information is needed before determining if Scattergood is a good match for the applicant. A decision will be sent via email as well as post according to the timeline on our admissions calendar.

If accepted, the family will receive a tuition contract which needs to be returned to the school with the enrollment deposit. At this time, Scattergood will start the financial aid process. Admission and financial aid processes are kept separate to allow the Admissions Committee to admit students on a need-blind basis.

Step 5:   Enrollment Fee

A non-refundable enrollment fee of $500 is due at the time of enrollment.
